Football® and CSR Thesaurus

Football® and CSR Thesaurus

At the request of the Direction Générale des Entreprises (DGE - Ministry of Economy and Finance), the methodology for evaluating and accounting for the Thesaurus-Football® Human Player Capital was sent on October 25, 2017 to be audited by the Collège des Experts de l'Immatériel. This methodology was validated on January 8.

It became apparent that the balance sheet of a soccer club does not reflect its true value because the accounting standards in force do not allow the valuation of assets produced in particular within its training center.

The DGE supports work on the theme of intangible assets and recognizes in particular the interest of the Thesaurus-Football® methodology for the soccer community, insofar as this method contributes to a better economic and financial evaluation of soccer clubs.

Thesaurus-Football® is a continuation of the Open Football Club project, the purpose of which was " to contribute to a better assessment, evaluation and valuation of the intangible assets of soccer training centers, to lead to the definition of the notion of human capital and know-how within a training center in order to propose methods of development and valuation of this capital " (Report and outlook of May 5, 2015). The working group composed of 11 clubs (Bordeaux, Caen, Le Havre, Lyon, Marseille, Metz, Nice, Saint-Etienne, Sochaux, Toulouse, Troyes) had chosen to work on creating a CSR label for training centers.

The CSR label should help lead training clubs to sustainable economic performance. In other words, if the club does a lot for its members, then it should, in the long run, have a better Human-Player Capital, hence the need to measure it in order to better demonstrate and manage it.

In this perspective, Thesaurus-Football® is the logical result of this collective DGE/OI action. Thesaurus-Football® presents a method to evaluate and account for the Human-Player Capital of soccer clubs. Consequently, it allows to objectify and value, in particular the results of CSR actions, in the service of the sporting and economic performance of clubs.
