Finance Innovation Labeling Ginkyo ratinga extra-financial rating agency for soccer clubs

FINANCE INNOVATION, a global competitiveness cluster dedicated to the French financial industry, has been carrying out concrete actions since its creation in 2008 to accelerate the development of innovative projects on themes with high economic, social and environmental stakes, in the service of growth and employment.

What is a fintech

Fintechs are young companies that, thanks to technological innovation, are profoundly transforming the practices of the financial sector.

Ginkyo Ratings is a fintech

Ginkyo Ratings deserves its name as a fintech. According to this definition, thanks to an enforceable valuation framework and a recognized methodology (Thesaurus-Football®), it allows soccer clubs that wish to do so to publish financial statements with the integration of the fair value of their Human-Player-Capital: fairer, more accurate and more transparent financial statements.

This financial innovation is truly strategic for the clubs, as the accounting doctrine only allows for the activation of 20% of the fair value of Player Capital. However, as Player Capital is the main asset of clubs, hundreds of millions of euros of real assets are off-balance sheet (immaterial). This poses a real problem of competitiveness!

A first in Europe ...

The extra-financial rating agency for soccer clubs, Ginkyo Ratings presented at the 8th National Day of Immaterial Assets (JNAI) organized by the Observatoire de l'Immatériel in Paris on November 16, 2018 in the premises of BPI France, the financial statements with Human Capital-Player, of the publicly listed club Olympique Lyonnais: This is a first in Europe. Indeed, the only company known to have published financial statements with consideration of its Human Capital is the American company Barry Corporation (Columbus, Ohio) in 1971.

The estimation of the fair value is based on the rating of soccer players. This rating is based on seven components: (1) physical capital, (2) technical capital, (3) tactical capital, (4) mental capital, (5) relational capital, (6) potential capital and (7) health capital. In order to respect strict rules of independence, the ratings are carried out by a College of Independent Evaluators (C.E.I.). The individual rating process results in an estimate of the fair financial value of the club's entire workforce or Player Capital. These estimates are based on a qualitative and quantitative analysis of several thousand professional soccer player transfers.

These estimates are then updated monthly. The financial statements with Player Capital (IC-Report Football®) are a strict reflection of the reality of the club's assets.
